Not many people are aware of what Copyright law actually is; however, anyone in business should understand the importance of a good copyright to protect their works from being "knocked-off". This process is much easier than one might think. A Copyright can be requested online for only $35.00/work. For more details click read more.

Whilst out reviewing the competition sites we have started to narrow down our design and how similar yet different the design will need to be so as not to infringe on anyone's copyrights. We have figured out that our target market will include both men and women and so we have decided to make a design alternate specific to the female demographic.

As many business owners find when creating a new product or service it is vital to check the marketplace to make sure that first no one else is doing it the way you are and that if there are people already doing it that you emulate them if they are already established in the marketplace. There are many things you can learn from your "Competition Review" such as...

This will be the first of many blog articles we do as we develop a new in-house idea for retailing an already popular product with a spin. Want to know what it is? Keep checking in with us as we get ready to create the plan, purchase the seed product and start online marketing and manual distribution. This should be an interesting case study indeed. For the time being we have to be secretive of the product until the copyrights are ready and we have the initial product. At that point we will be revealing everything. In the meantime we will give as much about the process as we can without divulging the exact product.

IT departments: Going the way of the dodo?

I’ve seen IT departments go from centralized, to decentralized to centralized again. From in house to outsourced and back again.

Any group in a company that starts putting its own interests ahead of the company’s best interests is eventually either going to lose or take down the company; especially small ones. Unfortunately, too many IT departments see themselves as risk minimizers and not business enablers.

Kaspersky's CEO went on record stating that Apple is 10 years behind Microsoft in it's OS security.  He further elaborates that Apple will soon find that they have the same security issues that Microsoft did 10-12 years ago.

We recently built a really nice custom system for one of our long time clients.  When they approached us about purchasing a new desktop for their business I informed them about our Thalo Custom Desktop's.  She was very interested in the prospect after I extolled the virtues of the Thalo Custom Desktop, which can be found in my blog post here, over what you could get from one of the big box vendors.

Move The Recycle Bin To The Taskbar In Windows 7

When the Recycle Bin first made its appearance in Windows 95, I really enjoyed dragging and dropping unneeded files on the trash can icon and watching them disappear. It was just so cool! (Keep in mind that was 15 years ago, and the drag-and-drop capability was a new feature.)

Configure Windows 7 To Run Only Specific Applications

There are situations where you, as the administrator/owner of a network or group of machines, want users to be able to run only certain applications. Parental controls, small business employers, etc.—there are plenty of reasons for doing this and a few methods for achieving it. One of those methods is built in to Microsoft Windows 7 (with the exception of Windows 7 Home) with the Group Policy Editor. This tool is powerful and offers numerous features, including the ability to limit the applications users can run.

As we get busier and busier we see our schedules filling up quickly. Nothing will stop your progress more than having to stop your long term project to make a couple of 'emergency' edits. We are starting to have an issue with scheduling. The only way to make it fair for everyone involved is for us to institute a couple of new policies.

If you are a retainer client please rest assured that you are always a priority and will be given first selection of the schedule. If you are not a retainer client please read the following policies: EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

Homestead and Intuit Sitebuilder No Longer Offer FTP

People let me tell you that FTP service is nothing new and has been around since the invention of the Internet. 99.98% of web hosting companies offer FTP access of some kind. Don't let them fool you with an 'FTP Manager' or something that is really just an internal page uploader. To have a true website you need to have external FTP access.

Recently, we had noticed that some of our customers FTP Upload on their links pages were failing. No one had changed the information so I decided to check the hosting company's website to see if they offer FTP. They did. Okay so if they offer FTP then something must be wrong with that users FTP.

I contacted support (while still surfing their help files) to ask why the FTP was failing. Below is a copy of the entire transcript.

I tried to explain to their staff the gravity of their decision and asked them if there was anyone I could talk to about our company providing it for their users. This might be a good source of new hosting customers for us. If your web host doesn't offer FTP access contact us today and we can provide you with legitimate business hosting.

There are many activities that Thalo Creative Studios participates in for employee moral. We have a Disc Golf community, an Amateur Poolplayers Association Team and now an annual shooting competition. This year being the first inaugural we really were just testing out Joe's place and how well my kids would get along with the sounds of gunfire. Not only did they not mind the noise...

Change and Customize Windows 7's Logon Screen Wallpaper

While experimenting with several Microsoft Windows 7 systems recently, I spent a lot of time staring at the Logon screen. During that time, I began to think about changing the Logon screen wallpaper. Now, I have changed the Logon screen wallpaper in just about every version of Windows I’ve used, so I knew there had to be a way to do so.

JD used to work in the banking industry and has saved some great jokes that they used to fax back and forth between offices. Remember facsimiles? how about 8 Tracks?

This is a question we hear at least once per week here at Thalo Creative Studios. With the complexity of computers and the variety of browsers there are ways that your computer may be showing you a down website when everyone else sees the site is online. But how do you know if your site is down or if it is just you?...

Restore the Quick Launch Bar in Windows 7

I like Windows 7, and I like the Windows 7 Taskbar interface. However, judging by the cacophony of voices in the Windows blog, there is still a great deal of affection for the Windows XP Quick Launch Bar interface. Now, don’t get me wrong. I like the Quick Launch Bar, too. I still use it on all the Windows XP machines I interact with. But I also like the Windows 7 Taskbar and find it performs the same function as the Quick Launch Bar, at least as far as my computing habits go. But a vocal minority feels differently, so here is how to get Quick Launch back.
