My post yesterday was about the rumor that SIRI will kill off SEO. I read another article today that explained some of this topic as it played out at PubCon the annual search engine convention.
The author writes, "According to Leo Laporte of TWIG (This Week in Google), SEO will in fact be dead in about 6 months. Laporte was one of the speakers at the recent search marketing conference, Pubcon, a forum designed to promote the search industry and solve its collective problems. Laporte’s remarks stirred up quite a controversy."
“Google is in deep trouble right now. And if I were your business, I would really be looking at alternatives to search engine marketing and search engine optimization.”

Google has a great service that I wish all Search Engines offered. You can signup a Google Webmaster Tools account via their website. Once you have an account you have access to some very cool information about how Google views your website. Then you can find areas where development and/or improvement is needed.
Additionally if you want to be sure all search engines find your site and index your site properly add a 'Site Map'. Site maps are good not only for the search engines but also for the benefit of your visitors.

Keywords... Everyone knows what they are and what they are used for. In the most basic form your keywords are food for the search engines. One of the things you should consider in developing your website is how to approach your keywords. Additionally keep in mind that you can change your keywords at any time.
What is the best way to come up with keywords?

Statistics is a whole lot more than just that one class in highschool everyone slept through. The stats of your site can enlighten you in many ways once you understand the information that you can collect and how to apply that information to your website development. Statistics help you to achieve your ever so precious ROI or Return on Investment. Most every web host offers one type of statistics tracking or another.
Google has a free service called Analytics that is the best program I have used. I do not work for Google; however, when a company with their reputation puts out a free product this great I have to spread the news. This isn't new information by any means but for new webmasters it is a must know. I will go over in more detail the important information you can get out of the system.

More often than not search engines and local services are being used by people in your hometown to find what they are looking for. A deep research has shown that somewhere in the neighborhood of 71% of households do some kind of search for a local product or service on a daily basis.
On a daily basis!
That is the reason why every local search is becoming more and more important to your advertising campaign and major search engines are rushing to become the next local search engine. But, you may ask, what is Local Search and how can it be helpful to my Business?

One cold rainy day many years ago Google created a measuring device called PageRank. With innocent intentions it was supposed to be used to measure the 'popularity' of your site and pages. Just like with any feature released it didn't take long for webmasters to figure out how to abuse the system.

In the last quarter century the way we get information has drastically changed. In the 80s you had to go to the library to research something you wanted more information about. Or you had to find someone who had the information you needed. This is they way information has been passed along for centuries.

If you don't read any other instructions in your entire life at least read the Webmaster Guidelines as defined by the people at Google. The people responsible for what has been unleashed without mercy on innocent civilians and business people alike. While they may not be able to stop the monster then have at least been kind enough to tell you what it wants.
