I have been working in the computer industry for 15 years and have evolved from a network engineer to a graphic designer. Don't ask me how these things happen. I am a partner at Thalo Creative Studios, an Internet consulting firm and web design / development firm just north of Atlanta in Dawsonville Georgia. I am lucky enough to be able to do what I love all day.

I'm getting a real kick out of recording my screen as I develop our sites out. It's really cool to be able to time lapse my work day and sum it up in 3 songs or less. I'm hoping that these videos will be a valuable resource to somebody that is learning the art of pixel perfect web development. My process is not all that different from most other custom designers, but it works for me.

This is the third, and in my opinion the coolest installment in my Video Blog Tutorial Series that covers taking a website from pen and paper to Joomla build out and launch. For this installment I created a cool little time lapse video that condenses 3-4 hours worth of hard core CSS / HTML development into a 12 minute video.

A long time client of ours, FermobUSA, called us and told us they needed a more advanced email solution. Our brains really went into overdrive. The current POP3 based email schema was just not cutting if for them any more. They had five people all responsible for interacting with customers from one email address. The problem was even though they all had the outlook clients setup to pull the emails from the server they had no way of knowing who, when, or how the customer was responded to. This  required that they constantly had to review all emails sent and received during they day to make sure that nothing dropped through the cracks. We dealt with a very similar issue in the past, and found a solution that worked really well for us. . .

I have been noticing tons of commercials advertising do-it-yourself web design packages, instant template websites, and overnight internet site cure-alls. As a designer I have a hard time stomaching these companies pawning off these crappy site builders as a viable option for a small business. I liken this to building your corporate office inside of a chicken coup. . . It serves the purpose, its cheep, but it looks and smells like. . .

I thought it would be a really cool idea to write a series of blog posts that will take my readers through my typical design process. People don't often know what to expect when they sit down with a web designer. Most of the time the site development process is kept secret as if it is the Holy Grail because competitors could somehow steal the process. We at Thalo Creative have adopted the attitude of transparency with our clients and the online community.

Custom means tailored to you, your business, and your objectives. Custom web designers create websites molded to fit every aspect of the clients' wants and needs. A professional design company typically never uses templatesto design a site. Here at Thalo we never design any two sites the same. Our work is built from our clients' goals and their vision for their business, meaning each site design is totally unique.

A brand is more than just a designed symbol or logo with which your clients and consumers identify you. Your brand is a customer's experience represented by a collection of images and ideas. It evokes emotion and the experience attached to that emotion.

You build a brand. Brand building involves naming, symbol selection and variation, image hints, textural voicing, color selection, usage guidelines, and ethos. Once determined, all of these elements come together, creating a unique structure. This is your company's brand.

Why Does Your Company / Organization Need Professional Branding?

Whether or not you realize it, your brand is built with or without you. Every time someone does business with you, they attach their overall experience to your business' symbol, logo or image. Building your company's brand is a thoughtful process involving not only the technical side of design work, but also the way you want to present your company to the world. This is a task best carried out with the aid of experienced brand professionals.

How Does A Good Branding Firm Do Branding?

Forus theprocess starts with an in-depth examination of your company as a whole. We listen as you identify what image you want projected to your target market and conduct market studies specifically for your industry. We then utilize this information and build your brand in different forms of expression including copy, logo design, and layout.

Done correctly, a brand drives the success of your business and creates opportunities for growth.

When communicating what your business does or the services your company offers, it's sometimes necessary to incorporate 3-D images / renderings or video clips. 3-D images allow a consumer to get a better idea of how a product looks, feels and functions.

Web application scripting in ASP/ PHP/ JSP/ .net allows the user to perform complex actions through a web interface. Services range from basic DHTML and HTML to the more complex COM components & Java applets. Data services store, retrieve and update information at a high level. For web applications, databases are most practical. Databases allow developers to store, retrieve, and update categorical information in a systematic and organized fashion.
