Is My Website Down? How Can I Tell?

This is a question we hear at least once per week here at Thalo Creative Studios. With the complexity of computers and the variety of browsers there are ways that your computer may be showing you a down website when everyone else sees the site is online. But how do you know if your site is down or if it is just you?...

http://downorisitjustme.com - That is 'Down Or Is It Just Me' dot com. Go to that site and you can input the domain you want to check and click the 'just me' button. The site will ping the server and make sure it is available to the Internet.

There are other more technical ways to tell if your site is working. You can use MSDOS to PING the server like:

C:\>ping thalocreative.com

A successful ping looks like:

C:\>ping thalocreative.com

Pinging thalocreative.com [174.121.150.40] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 174.121.150.40: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=50
Reply from 174.121.150.40: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=50
Reply from 174.121.150.40: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=50
Reply from 174.121.150.40: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=50

Ping statistics for 174.121.150.40:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 34ms, Maximum = 35ms, Average = 34ms

If you have tried that and the website mentioned previously and your website is still not showing up then you will want to call a computer repair/troubleshooting person to come take a look at your machine. You may also want to contact your webmaster and let them know something may be awry with your site.

If you cannot get the help you need from your providers please feel free to call us. We are here to help.

He has seen the good, the bad and the ugly of the Internet and desires to help small to mid-sized businesses get the most out of the Internet. He has seen the 6 months it can take to get your site restored at Google and emphasizes that nobody can guarantee you anything when it comes to the search engines. All you can do is give them what they are looking for and do more, pay more or be more than your competitors.
